Straight No Chaser - Fun on a Friday

What happens when you post a ten-year old video of you and your college buddies singing group on You Tube? If you're this group of Indiana University crooners (my alma mater!), you get over 8 million views, one of which was by a president of a record company. Guess what happened next? A record deal and a holiday album. Enjoy the video of the college performance that started it all or buy their album here.

The votes are in and here's a list of the 2007 YouTube Video Award Winners: No red carpet for these winners, no awards ceremony, not even a trophy -- just millions of fans watching and sharing their videos. Who Knew? Hulu Launches with Loads of Your Favorite T.V. Shows for Free

So here's the story: YouTube exploded and made all the t.v. and movie execs nervous. All their content was being distributed for free and worse, they weren't getting their cut. So NBC and FOX decided to fight back with their own streaming video site called Hulu with super-premium content -- all free (sort of; you have to watch some ads) -- and like everything online, it's on-demand. (Take that, Comcast!)

So now my husband and I can go back and watch those first few episodes of "Chuck" that we missed (and that I have not been able to find on YouTube). Fans of "The Office" can stream to their heart's content.

But Hulu isn't content to stream only t.v. shows. You'll also find movies from Sony and MGM, sports highlights, classic games and more. And if you like what you see, you can embed the clips on your own site (just like YouTube) and share with your friends.

CBS Offering Free, Live, Online Coverage of Entire NCAA Tournament

I grew up in Kentucky. Went to Indiana University. Following college basketball was not optional in those parts. Now I can watch all the games online for free. (I'll still watch at home on the flat screen but if I'm at the office during some of those early round games . . .) I'm rooting for University of Louisville this year. And Purdue, for my hubby.

Diddy Rants on YouTube to Recruit New Assistant

It was bound to happen eventually: online video recruitment. Sean Combs (a/k/a "Diddy") is looking for a helper to fill the shoes of his former assistant. But instead of résumés, Mr. Combs is accepting only video applications uploaded to YouTube. Qualifications? You've got to be able "to read," according to Diddy . . . oh, and you need a college degree. YouTube viewers will be able to vote on the finalists before Diddy makes his pick.
